The weekend begins with a Saturday morning bike ride (meeting at 7.30 at the vicarage) followed by our parish prayer meeting at 9.30 at St Mary’s – at this we pray for people, the needs of our village community and the wider world. This is followed by band practice at 10.00.
Traditional Communion Sunday Services will be at 8.00 (St Mary’s), 9.15 (St Michael’s) and 9.20 (All Saints). The All Age Service will be at 10.30 at St Mary’s and it a great one to come to if you’re new to church or have small children. There be great music, engaging teaching (with a ‘The Price is Right/ Who wants to be a Millionaire?’ inspired contest), refreshments and so much more. What’s more, it’ll be cool! I mean, literally. The church will be the coldest place in the village! Come and take refuge.
At most of our services, we’ll be thinking about the question: is it reasonable to be a consumerist? Consumerism is the big religion of our day, even though none of us would probably describe ourselves as consumerists. It’s the reason why happiness with a new home/car/job is so fleeting, it’s the reason our oceans are so full of plastic. Come and find out more about how unreasonable consumerism is and how you and I can be free from it!
Then, as if that weren’t enough, we have a concert at St Michael’s at 6.30pm. The Sandleheath Concert Band are returning and playing brass band favourites along with a few specially chosen words from our parish poet in residence, Tom Durham. Tickets are £7, which includes refreshments, and can be bought on the door.
