It was a glorious day to celebrate the risen Christ. Across our three churches, services were held to remember the joyous moment when Christ defeated death on the cross. All three church services at Thorney Hill, St Michael’s and St Mary’s were busy with a packed congregation gathered together as a community to celebrate the joy of Easter Sunday.
Thorney Hill and St Micheal’s held a more traditional service to mark Easter Sunday with hymns, prayer and a talk. St Mary’s had an all-age service with a high striker (when you use a mallet to hit a bell) to aid the talk in an inter-active and fun way for the children (and adults). There was also hymns from the band and prayer, with an Easter egg hunt afterwards for the children (although the adults may have sneaked a few eggs in themselves).
The joy of Easter Sunday shared by all of us across the benefice can be summed up with the words of Stuart Townsend:
See, what a morning, gloriously bright,
With the dawning of hope in Jerusalem;
Folded the grave-clothes, tomb filled with light,
As the angels announce, “Christ is risen!”
See God’s salvation plan,
Wrought in love, borne in pain, paid in sacrifice,
Fulfilled in Christ, the Man,
For He lives: Christ is risen from the dead!
If you want to find out more about Christ and the local community within the benefice, why not come along to one of the church services. Or come along to Christianity Explored that will be starting on the 7th May.
